An eagle-eyed fan may have spotted that The Great Khali has been released.

Khali's profile on the WWE website has been moved from the Main Roster to the alumni, a section reserved for stars who are no longer with the company. Khali has not been on television since Halloween and is not on the current European tour. Some had expected Khali to leave when his contract expired, but the belief was that it expired in the Summer.

Khali was introduced at the same time with the exact same story line as Umaga. His first feud was against Undertaker, and he won the World Heavyweight Championship within 6 months. Despite several pushes, the WWE struggled to get Khali over as a main-eventer. One reason was because of his clumsy in ring style. Khali tended to only use clubbing strikes and headbutts, and moved slowly around the ring. He had a speech impediment and poor English skills, so it was difficult for him to communicate clearly.

The main reasons he stayed so long was because of his size, backstage manner and the fact that he was Indian. He was a massive star when the company toured India, and he presented as a super hero. At 7' 4'', he is taller than Big Show and Andre the Giant in their primes. He had the same medical condition, but it was kept under control. The WWE hired a caterer for Khali because he required so much energy to do everyday things. He was well liked by staff, and never seemed to have an issue with anyone.

His poor in ring style was caused by him being too careful. His height made it difficult for him to move about safely within the ring. Also, Khali was genuinely concerned about injuring opponents. During training, a rookie died from head injuries after Khali performed a flapjack on him. The rookie had botched the move, but Khali always considered himself responsible. Khali was considerably upset when he accidentally hurt Tommy Dreamer. In a planned stunt, Khali performed a Punjabi Plunge on Dreamer onto steel steps, even though Dreamer already had a back injury. The incident shook Khali's confidence.

Khali has appeared in a few movies and TV shows while he was in the WWE, including The Longest Yard and Get Smart. He reported knocked out Steve Carrell when Carrell forgot to move out of the way from a Khali punch. He also upset movie producers in India by being popular. He was sent into Big Boss (Big Brother) for 2 weeks to promote the movie, but he wound up remaining on the show for the entire series.

I know he had a lot of health issues, so here's to him for getting to go home and feel good. :)

He wasn't the best, but I didn't hate Khali, he was a spectacle attraction. I dig spectacle attractions.

Never liked his character but liked him as a person. I guessed he never really did let go on the fact that he was part of a botched move though not his fault.
