WWE Hall of Famer Bret Hart heavily critised the new WWE DVD based on Owen Hart’s life before it is even released. And he placed the blame squarely on Owen’s widow, Martha Hart.
As we have reported so many times already, Martha Hart has largely denied the WWE permission to use Owen’s image. Before Keson points it out again, both sides made a legal settlement which gives the WWE some leeway. However, the amount of freedom seems to be largely estimated. Part of the agreement included the forthcoming DVD, which older brother Bret has called “the sh*tsâ€.
The WWE has since made peace with the extended Hart family, with widow Martha and brother Smith being the final two hold-outs. The Hart family have finally hit a point of frustration with Martha over how she continues to handle Owen’s legacy. Bret spoke out when asked about the DVD.

“It’s a poorly done DVD because of all the restraints and limitations that (Owen’s widow) Martha put on it. And to me, that’s such a lousy thing to have happen. And Martha… I think Owen would turn in his grave if he found out how much trouble Martha has gone to erase his career and to make sure nobody enjoys anything about his career today. It’s a bitterness and a selfishness that I can’t stand by anymore. I think Martha’s taken the wrong approach and she should understand that we all miss Owen. We /I lost a brother. I lost a great friend and maybe one of my closest people that I knew on this earth. I want to celebrate his career. I want to watch his matches back. Not just with me, but with everybody he worked with in his time with WWE. They (have) got so much footage and so many memories of Owen. And there she is; standing in the way of that, saying ‘nobody can see these videos , nobody should see anything that brings back any of his career.’ “

The interviewer then asked if the WWE were allowed to show footage of Owen on the DVD. Due to the contract that Owen had signed, the WWE may broadcast any production Owen was previously involved with on the WWE Network only. They may not make original content with the old footage, or put them on any other web service, home release or merchandise. The forthcoming DVD is one of the few exceptions Martha agreed to in the settlement. Hart explained that there were still further restrictions.

“They can do select things. They can’t use any pictures from his childhood. They can’t use any pictures. They can’t use anything from Stampede Wrestling. They had so many restraints. Even in the interviews. The questions that they did with me were so bullshit, and the whole thing was bullshit. Surely, it’s an Owen DVD, but it’s the sh*ts.â€

Martha recently put out a statement admitting that she allowed the DVD project to go ahead, but does not approve of it. She requested that people let Owen rest in peace.
