The first glimpse of plot details for "Transformers 4" has surfaced...and it doesn't sound too far removed from the first three movies in the Michael Bay-directed series.

The early plot synopsis was part of a press release issued by the Michigan Film office, which announced that the movie had been given a tax incentive to film in the Detroit area beginning this spring. The press release noted that the new movie's storyline will start "soon after the end of" 2011's"Transformers: Dark of the Moon" before adding:

<big><big>As humanity picks up the pieces, following the conclusion of Transformers: Dark of the Moon, Autobots and Decepticons have all but vanished from the face of the planet. However, a group of powerful, ingenious businessman and scientists attempt to learn from past Transformer incursions and push the boundaries of technology beyond what they can control -- all while an ancient, powerful Transformer menace sets Earth in his crosshairs. The epic adventure and battle between good and evil, freedom and enslavement ensues.

While we're sure that those pesky old Autobots and Decepticons will show up at some point, they will be staring down at some new faces: Shia LaBeouf is gone from the series, with the action hero duties now being shared by Mark Wahlberg and Jack Reynor. The latter plays a race car driver who is dating Wahlberg's daughter and will no doubt fill the "young smart-ass" void left behind by LaBeouf.

Rumors that Tyrese Gibson, Josh Duhamel and John Turturro will all reprise their roles from the earlier films are yet to be confirmed.

Bay, who once said that "Dark of the Moon" was going to be his last "Transformers" film -- until it earned $1.1 billion at the box office -- has stated that everything will be redesigned for the new entry, which hopefully means we'll be able to tell all the robots apart from each other this time.

<big>"Transformers 4" is out in theaters Thursday, June 27, 2014.
