The WWE has finally reached an agreement to do a tribute for Owen Hart.

WrestlingDVDNews.com have revealed that the WWE is currently working on a DVD set set based around the King of Harts. They have already taped a number of interviews with members of Hart's family specifically for the project. The set will contain a documentary on his life and career, and will feature many of his matches. It is not known what matches will feature yet, but his WrestleMania X match against brother Bret Hart will likely appear. Best of all, the while project was backed by Owen's widow, Martha Hart.

Owen tragically became the first WWE employee to die at a live event. As part of his Blue Blazer gimmick, Owen was supposed to descend from the rafters from a harness. However, Owen accidentally hit the safety release and fell to the ring. He suffered a broken neck from hitting the turnbuckle and passed away while medics tended to him in the ring. Ever since the incident, Martha had banned the WWE from ever using his image again, and sued the WWE any time he featured in DVDs, including Hart family and best of Raw compilations.

Owen's contract gave Martha the rights to his image for life. Even though she is paid royalties each time any footage or photos of Owen are used, she banned the WWE from creating any new productions featuring him. The contract allows the WWE to continue using his footage in shows that were made prior to his death, i.e. any TV show or pay-per-view Hart featured on. However, those matches may not be used in any new feature. The contract allows WWE to use any old footage in TV broadcasts, including the WWE Network (which counts as a channel), without consenting Martha first. So this new project is a positive step forward for both sides.

Footage of Owen as the Blue Blazer will feature on the DVD set, but will be kept to a minimum and will not feature any BB matches. Owen's fall was not caught on camera, and cameras were ordered to stay off the ring until he had been moved to the back. The DVD will not feature much of his international career outside of WWE because WWE doesn't have the rights, but could feature some of his very few Stampede appearances.

Owen is a former Intercontinental, European and Tag Team Champion as well as one of the most popular King of the Rings of all time. There is no word yet on if Martha would allow Owen to be inducted into the Hall Of Fame, but speculation has already begun. Today would have been his 50th birthday.

Owen is the younger brother of Hall Of Famer Bret Hart, and the son of another Hall Of Famer Stu Hart. He is a brother-in-law to British Bulldog and Jim 'The Anvil' Neidhart. He is also an uncle to Natalya and Harry Smith, and a cousin of Roddy Piper.
