Before the movie :

As a man born in 1992 i grew up with the current generation of comic book movies and the x-men series was one of my favorites and had put the spotlight on Wolverine throughout the years, so i had to see Logan knowing that this would be the end of Jackman's and Stewart's portrayal of their respective characters. As often i only watched promo photos and a single trailer and the tone it presented made me think it might be great.

Movie Plot :

2029, mutants are on the brink f extinction with no new born specimen for 14 years.
A sick and weak Logan is now a chauffeur taking care and hiding a mentally sick Charles Xavier who is considered as a very dangerous man.

Transigen head security, Donald Pierce, comes to Logan making him understand that he knows who he is and that he is hiding Charles somewhere, he asks Logan to tell him if he finds Laura, a young girl he is after.

A transigen's nurse approaches Logan and asks him to escort Laura to a safe place, this will be the beginning of troubles for our former hero.

My impressions :

+ Jackman, Stewart and Keen are great in their role. Both men are heartbreaking at times and it's always great to see a kid who acts well.
+ The tone. The movie juggles between the sad and badass with some humor thrown in there and it's so well balanced.
+ The pacing. There is a slow burn there, the movie isn't a full on action packed flick, neither a tearjerker but it never feels boring or anythingwrong . The slow moments are touching and building characters, the action is visceral and brutal, you see the anger, the will to kill in Logan's eyes he is like a cornered animal who has nothing to lose.
+ Visually appealing. Desert, forest, city the shots are great and the futuristic elements are there to show that it's happening in the future but not too much is there so it doesn't distract us or feel silly.
+ Both characters are taken backwards and show something new and interesting. Xavier who was the smart father of the X family is now lost and needs to be taken care of and Logan who was the beast is now beaten down sick and lost his will to live.

- The Bad guy. Donald Pierce doesn't really feels like a huge threat as he often stays on the side of the action and sends his henchmen. Two other big baddies are present but it's not as big of a threat as it should be.

To conclude, Logan is the great movie we could have expected. We finally have a bloody Wolverine flick and a touching movie with a character that breathes violence, i can't wait for the home release to watch that movie again. It's smart, beautiful and touching and in a way i hope that Jackman and Stewart will reconsider their decision to give us something as good as this but on the other hand it's a great way to end their portrayals of these characters.

<div class='spoiler_toggle'>SPOILER</div><div class="spoiler" style="display:none;">
<div class='spoiler_toggle'>YOU'VE BEEN WARNED</div><div class="spoiler" style="display:none;">One thing i would have done differently. A huge theme of the movie is FAMILY. Logan lost his "family" the X-men and takes care of the father : Xavier. He discovers that he has a "daughter" X-23/Laura.
Xavier is killed by X-24, a clone of Logan that he ends up killed by Logan and Laura.
Personally i would have included Daken instead of X-24. Logan's biological son he would have to kill to protect his other family. Logan is broken and i think this would have been a last stroke to push the character further down before his death, an ultimate sacrifice (his son and himself) to protect the new generation of mutants and his daughter/clone (X-23)

Also one thing i found touching. When they change clothes Xavier wears a hat, maybe i'm over reading it but Magneto was the one who often had a hat and i thought it was a node to Xavier's better friend/enemy

I also saw John Wick 2, might post a review soon.
