David Otunga has finally made his first WWE appearance in almost a year.

Otunga had a total of 5 matches with the company throughout 2014. One was the Royal Rumble, and the other was the Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal at WrestleMania XXX. The battle royal would be his last appearance of the year.

Otunga has not been recovering from injury, like many had suspected. Otunga had been involved with a lot of things, including looking after his wife Jennifer Hudson and their new child. He has also been involved with comedy shows (like nearly every other wrestler) and had been working on starting his own law firm. He competed at two different house shows this week, and is expected to start traveling with the WWE full-time again. However, he may not return to television before the Rumble*, and is not expected to receive an immediate push. It is also unknown how long he actually has left on his contract.

* This is not a spoiler because the WWE habitually keeps inactive or injured stars out of action for longer just to return them as surprise entrants in the Rumble.

Otunga is the second Harvard graduate to compete in the WWE after Tough Enough finalist Christopher Nowinski. Otunga is a registered attorney, and his WWE contract allows him to practice law and take on cases. He reportedly won all of his first 20 court cases.

He originally used the nickname "A-List", referring to the fact that he was a semi-finalist on a reality TV show (I Love New York 2) and his relationship with singer and Hollywood actress Hudson. He placed 2nd on the first season of NXT but still debuted as the vice-captain of the Nexus stable. He was the only member to remain with the group from start to finish. He also held the tag team championship twice, once with John Cena and once with Michael McGillicutty (Curtis Axel). After that, he adopted the attorney gimmick on television, serving the heel Raw General Managers. When he wasn't wrestling, his character constantly held a flask of coffee and resembled Carlton Banks from the TV series 'The Fresh Prince of Bel Air'. Both of these would be running jokes for the character. After failing to get over as a heel, he plummeted down to the under-card.
