We have been reporting on how the main event of WrestleMania 31 is set to be even worse than WrestleMania 24. But that is nothing compared to the latest update.
We noted that Brock Lesnar walked out of Raw last week and did not make his scheduled appearance. He had gotten into a disagreement over a proposed new contract. The WWE has been trying hard to keep everything under wraps, mainly because it was so difficult to keep it a secret.
The negotiations became very heated. People in the backstage area could hear the intense shouting between Lesnar and WWE Chairman Vince McMahon. It got to the point that others began to worry about McMahon's safety. After Lesnar walked out, someone asked if the company needed a back-up plan for WrestleMania. Vince said "No", because he believed that Lesnar would be professional and would work the match. He also noted that Lesnar was contractually obligated to work the event, whether Lesnar was happy or not. McMahon also gave the implied impression that the WWE would take legal action against Lesnar if he didn't co-operate.
Lesnar was asking for an increase in his fee because PPV bonuses have dropped since the WWE Network was launched. He was also unwilling to add any more matches or appearances. Lesnar also wants to be able to work a part-time UFC schedule, assuming that he got a new deal with them too. Vince was understandably furious because, while Brock is a major draw, they are simply not getting their moneys worth from him now. In addition to his fee, the WWE occasionally has to pay a large fine every time Lesnar wears sponsor logos on his ring gear. They also have to charter a private jet to and from every event they want to use him at. Vince rightly feels the UFC would benefit far much more if Lesnar represented both companies.
The world of showbiz news has been buzzing about the fact that Lesnar attended the UFC 184 event. He was photographed talking to UFC owner Dana White. It is widely believed that Lesnar only showed up as a publicity stunt, and it worked. If Lesnar could prove that he could get a lot of media interest, then it would surely convince the WWE or UFC to increase their offers. It should be noted that Lesnar has also reached out to other MMA companies, but they have turned him down due to concerns about his health.
Hulk Hogan has already offered to fill in for Brock at WrestleMania if an agreement cannot be made.
No, Hogan didn't really. It was a joke.
