Rey Mysterio has been subject to death threats and false reports since El Hijo de Perro Aguayo's death two days ago.
We have reported heavily on how Perro died from a stroke during a match after a bad fall against the rings ropes. Some people have been insistent that Mysterio was entirely responsible for his death. The allegations wrongly claimed that Mysterio had hit Perro with a stiff dropkick when Perro was not expecting it.
In addition to death threats, hundreds who were not even in attendance have contacted Mexican police and falsely claimed to have witnessed a murder. These people have seen videos of the fall and drew their own conclusions because they wanted somebody to blame. Police are to open an investigation into possible manslaughter. The investigation will centre on whether or not the CRASH event organisers did enough to keep the performers safe and get help to Perro. Mysterio is not a suspect.
There has also been a wide number of false reports that Mysterio had been arrested on murder charges. The original source is a Mexican vlog that was strictly an opinion piece. Yet hundreds have repeated the opinions as fact. Newspapers around the world also claimed that Perro died because of the "flying kick", but gave no comment on Perro hitting the ring ropes.
Additional: It is presently being reported that the WWE does not know whether to pay tribute to Perro or not. It has been a subject of heavy discussion between Vince McMahon, Triple H and Kevin Dunn. One of those three are in favour of doing the tribute. Perro was a well-loved wrestling star who is popular with many international WWE audiences. The tragedy also highlights the physical risks that every in-ring performer takes with their lives for the sake of entertainment. The other two were against it because a former WWE star who had only just left the company was involved. They were worried that drawing attention to it would put Mysterio in a negative light. It would also raise concerns about safety issues within the WWE, especially after multiple former employees have publicly claimed that the WWE pressured them into working while injured. It is not known which of the three men wanted the tribute.
