Many WWE staff and legends feel frustrated by management’s hypocritical treatment of Hulk Hogan.
Every person under a WWE contract has been advised to avoid all contact with Hogan. This is a further extension of his release from a legend’s contract earlier this year. In addition to this, it has been revealed that the WWE had pulled all nWo related merchandise from sale too. But a number of legends and staff members are unhappy with the way that the WWE is treating Hogan. They feel it is hypocritical based on the way the WWE treats Ultimate Warrior.
Hogan was released from his WWE Legends contract after audio footage from his sex tape was released. During a conversation, Hogan said he hoped that his daughter was not having sexual relations with an African-American boyfriend unless he was wealthy. The comments contained a number of racial slurs. This was followed by more leaked footage of a phone call between Hogan and his son Nick when Nick was arrested. During the call, Hogan made more racial slurs. Since then, the WWE has completely distanced themselves from Hogan. They have removed all mentions of him from WWE programming and web services, and removed all his merchandise from sale.
Insiders are upset with how WWE is treating Hogan because of how they treat Ultimate Warrior in contrast. It is noted that both of Hogan’s conversations were private and he did not know he was being recorded. As Keson has pointed out so many times, Warrior has made a number of homophobic comments over the years, even speaking publicly at rallies. Since his Hall of Fame induction last year, Warrior has had a lot of merchandise and programming released in tribute to him. This includes a bronze statue which has been promoted heavily on Raw in recent weeks. The feeling is that Hogan has done more for the company and the industry than Warrior ever has, so he should be receiving more gratitude than Warrior.
Ric Flair revealed on his podcast that Kevin Nash had been hit financially by Hogan’s firing. After Hogan’s release, all nWo merchandise was pulled from sale along with all other Hogan merchandise. Both Hogan and Nash get a share of all nWo merchandise sales. As the WWE has little Nash/Diesel merchandise available, Nash made considerably more money from nWo merchandising. Flair claimed that Nash recently made an agreement with management to get nWo merchandise back on sale. If this happens, Nash will start receiving his 35% again, but Hogan would not receive his 15%. Scott Hall used to receive royalties too, but he sold his shares to Nash, which explains why Nash receives so much.
