<blockquote class='quote\\_blockquote'><dl><dt>Stan Hansen on Andre the Giant</dt><dd> </dd></dl><div>"I owe a lot to Andre. Andre was the guy that got me over in Japan.
Because I 'fought' him. Nobody used to fight Andre...he was so big and so strong and I was much smaller but, you know...probably a lot dumber (laughs). But anyway I fought Andre and all of a sudden people just sparked...
In Japan, you build your character and you build yourself by fighting hard and getting the crap beat out of you.
He was surprised that suddenly he had a good opponent. We had some great matches and they still talk about Andre and I in a big Tennis stadium there...they turned away about 4000 people.
I slammed Andre. That was a pivotal point (in my career).
Obviously he was a huge guy and being underneath that microscope, as a star, you can't go anywhere, you can't sneak off, you can't have no privacy. With Andre, it's even more so. So that'll probably taint you a little bit. He didn't like to be screwed around with.
He enjoyed being with the other wrestlers and you know, he liked to drink...and he COULD drink - I mean, he's a legend in how much he could drink. He could just go out for weeks and weeks.
He was a nice guy - if he liked you. If he didn't like you, then he didn't give you a whole lot. But we fought it out and ended up going up to Montreal years later.
I appreciated everything he did for me."
