As of this year, the WWE Hall Of Fame ceremony has a new permanent host: Eva Marie.
The show had been hosted by actual wrestling legend and Hall of Famer Jerry 'The King' Lawler for many years. There is no heat on Jerry, but the WWE wanted to go with someone newer and younger. However, Eva is a baffling choice for a lot of reasons. Eva has barely appeared on WWE television for well over a year, and hasn't had a single match during that time. She also postponed her wrestling training for a year and only returned to it recently. She also hasn't had a long career in any respect.
This year's HoF lass has caused a lot of confusion. The biggest controversy so far has been the decision to have Hulk Hogan induct Randy Savage. Savage had a real life distrust of Hogan which lasted from WCW closing down until Savage's death. Savage quit TNA after a few weeks because he felt unsafe around Hogan, and even claimed to carry a knife with him at life events. Hogan has insisted that Savage and he have reconciled. He alledges that they both bumped into each while visiting the same doctor at the same time, and had been talking for a year until Savage's death. However, it should be noted that many of those who initially confirmed Hogan's stories later acknowledged that they had no idea if there actually had been any contact between the two men. Many close to Savage have confessed that Savage had never mentioned Hogan's name once in years.
Another reason for the upset is the distasteful way Hogan responded to Ultimate Warrior's death. Warrior and Hogan reconciled a few days before Warrior died. After that, Hogan repeatedly told stories about how Warrior supposedly "lived in misery", and then lied about trying to help Warrior and his family. Warrior's widow Dana later threatened Hogan with legal action if he continued to talk about Warrior in public, noting that Hogan was the "only one of his colleagues" that had not reached out their condolences to the family. Even Ted DiBiase, who wrote 2 negative posts on social media about Warrior days before his death, was among the first to offer his sympathies.
Fans are also confused by the decision to induct Arnold Schwarzenegger, who has had little to do with the industry.
This already stands to be one of the most heavily criticized WWE weekends ever. A lot of people have been unhappy with how Roman Reigns will be in the headline match despite clearly being inexperienced and uncomfortable in singles matches. Others are confused by why Daniel Bryan is in a mid-card multi-man match. Then there was the decision to keep Sting, Brock Lesnar and the Undertaker off television as much as they have been, even though all 3 are in main event matches.
