PWInsider reports that word from within WWE is that merchandise sales for NXT star Kevin Owens are doing extremely well. Owens' first-ever WWE t-shirt first went on sale during the weekend of Takeover on December 11th.

WWE officials are very happy with how the former Kevin Steen has brought his fanbase with him to NXT, something a lot of NXT talents don't do.

The reason most of the NXT wrestlers dont bring their fanbase with them is because of the name/gimmick changes, I forgot Sami was El Generico personally.

I was going to report this one, but Maximo pointed out the flaw with the story. Every time they sign a big name from the indy scene, they completely repackage them and change their name and wrestling style. The only things they changed about Owens is his surname and his finisher (he used to use the F-5). They aren't even making him cover up his 'LIVE / EVIL' tattoos. Owens is Steen.

They are too focused on 'reality' gimmicks. They strip away everything that made an indy star unique and force him to start from scratch. Then they expect their old fans to see him as the same package.

I mean, I'm kinda glad it worked that way for Generico. When he debuted I was cheeeeeeeesed that they took his mask off, but the person he is today compared to back then is lengths ahead imo. The wrestling has always been there, but there's something about Sami.

Sami gives great promos. Generico was just as emotional, but didn't speak a whole lot outside of 2-3 words in Spanish. It's almost the same story, but not as a silent film this time. At least that's how I see it.

Owens is way overdue. Now is a fantastic time, though, because he's still in his prime. I remember thinking in 2005 that any day we'd see Mr. Wrestling be this hybrid of Angle and Brock with a more relatable twist.

His shirts are everywhere. I see the KO shirts at indy shows and Full Sail is full of them. He probably sold the most shirts ever last year when he was selling the Fight Steen Fight shirt. As far as indy wrestlers go.

Side comment, his arms are fucking massive now.
