WWE today held their annual earnings report and revealed that the current number of WWE Network Subscribers stands at 700,000.
The company had 667,287 WWE Network subscribers on April 7th, 2014, and has added 161,000 subscriptions between then and now, however it has also lost 128,000 due to cards not being able to be charged or having no funds on them.
The Network is said to need 1 million subscribers by the end of 2014 in order to break even.
To try and help reach their target, the company plans to make the U.S. version of WWE Network available on an over-the-top basis starting August 12th in over 170 countries and territories, including Australia, New Zealand, Hong Kong, Singapore, Mexico, Spain and the Nordics, among others. The network is expected to be live in the U.K. by October 2014. Plans for the network in Italy, UAE, Germany, Japan, India, China, Thailand and Malaysia will be communicated at a later date.
In Canada however, the WWE Network will be available as a traditional a-la-carte Pay-TV channel in Rogers’ cable systems as part of a new 10-year partnership with Rogers Communications. A WWE Network preview will be available on systems beginning August 12th and thereafter through other Pay-TV providers outside Rogers’ footprint.
WWE will also be launching a new $19.99/month WWE Network subscription that requires no commitment, whilst also continuing to offer the standard upfront one-time payment option for $9.99/month for six months.
