Bad News Barrett separated his shoulder during a WWE SmackDown taping on Tuesday night. Barrett wrestled Dean Ambrose on the show, and after losing clean to Ambrose’s finisher (he’s the IC champion, after all), Jack Swagger interfered and threw him into the barricade. Barrett cussed audibly and grabbed his shoulder immediately.
It is BOlieved that Barrett suffered a legit separated shoulder. The severity of the injury is unknown at this time, but it was BOlieved to be serious when it occurred. Barrett is scheduled to have more testing done, and we still don’t know for sure whether or not he will be cleared to compete at the PPV.
Given the nature of these mutli-person ladder matches, Wade is better off staying away. While there is an outside chance Barrett could win the briefcase, more than likely that’s not going to happen. The match is designed to showcase Seth Rollins and Ambrose, and the contest will likely come down to a battle between these men.
With six other competitors in the match, it isn’t necessary for Barrett to compete. There are plenty of other wrestlers on the roster who could fill his spot, allowing Barrett much-needed recovery time. Why would he put himself through that when he’s not going to win anyway?
Hopefully the injury isn’t serious enough that Barrett is forced to miss a significant amount of time. His run as IC champion was finally starting to pick up steam and his character is getting over. With less than a week to go before the PPV, the timing of the injury is pretty poor. Still, rather than risk further damage, Barrett is better off missing the show and returning to regular action as soon as possible.
