Before the movie :

This movie had me interested for quite some time thanks to it's plot. With more and more superheroes movies being made nowadays, the idea of seeing an actor struggling to get out of this image is interesting.
I was hoping for this movie to be at least decent.

Movie Plot :

Riggan Thomson is no one. It's just the name of the actor who played Birdman decades earlier which made him famous but now, he is seen as a washed-up Hollywood actor and nobody cares about him unless for his Birdman role.

Riggan wants to redefine his carreer and to do so, he is directing and acting in an Broadway adaptation of Raymond Carver's "What we talk about when we talk about love" but it's not going as planned. One of his actors is awful so Riggan gets rid of him and have him replaced by Mike Shiner who will be pain in Riggan's ass.

Another issue Riggan's has to deal with is that, not only people see him only as Birdman, but he himself is tormented by the character's voice, always criticizing his decisions.

Will Riggan be able to get rid of Birdman and finally be recognized as an actor ?

My impressions :

+ The actors. Keaton and Norton are doing a great job.
+ The topic, sadly actors being defined by a character is a real thing. Story time : We were talking about Avengers 2 with some friends, including one who isn't interested a lot in movies, and when we mentionned Jeremy Renner that one friend was like "who ?" so we explain it's Hawkeye (the guy with the bow) and he answered "ah yeah i didn't know his name, never seen him in any other movie i guess" which is funny because there is a line about Renner in Birdman.
+ The pacing. Most of the movie looks like a single long shot and it gives an interesting rythm that caught me in the movie.

- The music. Too much fucking drums ! It gets annoying.
-

To conclude, this movie is a hit or miss, it's not a masterpiece but i liked it but i'm sure some people will find it long and boring.
I think it's an interesting movie, weird, but interesting and would suggest you to watch it if you can.
The end had me scratch my head, wondering how to explain a few things and in the end, i don't think there is a perfect answer, it's up to you to interpret it as you feel.
