Carrie MAY CONTAIN SPOILERS
Before the movie :
Since i'm a child my dad tells me that Carrie was a movie that scared him in the 70s which made my sister laugh. I've never watched the old movie but when i read about the remake i thought i should go watch it. Note that i didn't read the novel nor saw any of the previous movies so my opinion won't suffer from any comparison with what was done before.
Movie Plot :
Margaret White, a very religious woman, gives birth to her daughter Carrie alone in her house. She sees the baby as the devil's daughter and wants to kill her but changes her mind.
Years after, Carrie is a teenage girl who don't fit well in her school, she is a shy girl and is seen as a weirdo, leading her to be bullied and mocked every day.
One day she has her first menstrual period, scared by the blood she starts screaming while the other girls make fun of her.
Carrie is learning to control her telekinetic powers. One of the girls who made fun of her feels guilty and tells her boyfriend to go to the prom with Carrie while another girl , who was punished because of the previous events and his banished from the prom, is preparing her revenge on Carrie with the help of some friends.
My impressions :
+ Julianne Moore is nice in her role of the batshit crazy religious mother
+ Chloe Grace Moretz fits well as Carrie. She is young, not a sex symbol (not ugly either) which is nice when Carrie is the underconfident teen, she also proved she is able to be badass in KickAss which is good for when Carrie is on a rampage.
+ The movie is updated, i mean it takes place in 2013.
+ The bullying. All those assholes and bitches at school are nicely done.
- Not scary at all
- A few things are a bit outdated
- The last scene feels like it was done times and times again a lot before
To conclude, it wasn't the movie i came for. I was hoping for a horror movie as it was announced, supernatural abilities doesn't make horror. In the first part, where she is bullied, i just felt bad for the character; overall the movie is nice, i didn't got bored at all, it just wasn't the movie I expected.
I read a lot of bad reviews for the movie, without being the movie of the year it didn't deserve to be trashed and is a good entertainment.
