This is a 2-part story because the second part contains spoilers. There are no spoilers in this part. The link to Part 2 is at the bottom of this post.

There is a lot of panic within the creative team right now. They are expecting some of them to be released from their contracts before Christmas.

Throughout the year, the WWE has been releasing staff as a cost-cutting measure. Normally, this is done through a technique called “spring cleaning”, in which multiple superstars and divas are released within the same month. But for the last 2 years, most of the releases have been office workers and backstage staff. There have already been major changes to the writing team several times in the past year.

If you think the problems were with Triple H, Vince and Stephanie McMahon… then you would be right. The trio keep changing their minds at the last minute about major plans, and then the creative team must race to replace long-term storylines at the whim of the McMahons. We have reported how several episodes of Raw had the script changed during the shows earlier this year. Many episodes have had several full scripts written on the day of the show.

Recently, the writers were told that Randy Orton would retain the WWE Championship against Big Show at Survivor Series (which happened), and Big Show would then face Triple H at TLC – Tables, Ladders and Chairs. But then plans changed, and Big Show was due to face Orton in a rematch in a Tables match at TLC. The day before Survivor Series, they were told that the Big Show/ Triple H match was back on, and that Henry would be challenging Orton for the title at TLC. Then on the day of Survivor Series, they were told about the “No interference in any match” ruling, meaning that the planned finish to the main event (and other matches) had to be changed. After Survivor Series went off the air, they teased the Cena vs Orton feud, but the writers had no idea of these plans until this had happened. Finally, they were told of the Champion vs Champion main event at TLC – Tables, Ladders and Chairs just hours before the next Raw. The writers have struggled to keep up with the constant changes.

The writers feel like they are being blamed for the plummeting ratings, ticket sales and pay-per-view buys. Every storyline that they run has to be approved by either Vince, Stephanie or Triple H. Many of the story lines that have received the largest criticism were all suggested by the trio (including the ‘No Contests' at Extreme Rules and Battleground).
