John Corrigan of The Temple News has an article about Daniel Bryan's Q & A at the Philadelphia Comic-Con earlier this month. During the Q&A, Bryan named his favorite ROH opponent.

"Despite him detaching my retina and giving me two concussions, I really liked working with (Takeshi) Morishima in ROH," Bryan said. "But my favorite ROH rivalry was with Nigel McGuinness. Nigel was signed at the same time as me, but he had some shoulder and elbow stuff that didn't clear WWE's medical testing and now he's out of the business altogether. It's a loss because he's great on interviews, in the ring, and really just a fun guy to be around."[/quote]

By "shoulder and elbow stuff", he means hepatitis.

The illness was discovered as part of the WWE Wellness Policy, and McGuinness was told so. However, the WWE knew that McGuinness being refused a contract on medical grounds would become public knowledge. The WWE and McGuinness agreed that they would officially say that the shoulder and elbow injury was the reason for his rejection (as McGuinness' move set was heavily dependent on his shoulder strength).

The medical testing was not a condition of signing with TNA Wrestling. McGuinness' illness came to light several months after debuting in the company.

The WWE cannot take wrestlers with any blood related illnesses or infections due to how easy these conditions can be spread. If you are unlucky, one solid impact can cause bleeding.
