For those of you who are not aware, Brockie was the lead singer for the heavily influential metal band GWAR. The band was one of the first metal bands to dress up in full costumes, with the members dressing up as demons that they designed themselves. Brockie performed under the stage name Oderus Urungus.
Brockie was also the lead singer for other bands Dave Brockie Experience, Death Piggy and X-Corps.
He was found dead in is apartment in Richmond, VA, on Sunday morning. A friend found his body after Brockie’s concerned flatmate called him for help. The police announced that Brockie was dead immediately. Right now, there is no known cause of death and foul play is not suspected. More details will be released once a full autopsy has been completed. Brockie was only 50.
A lot of fans were first introduced to GWAR as the favourite band of cartoon characters Beavis & Butthead. They also made a cameo appearance in the Beavis & Butthead video game. In the game, Beavis and Butthead have their tickets for the GWAR concert torn up by the neighbour’s dog. Your aim is to help the boys locate all of the ticket pieces and make it to the concert in time. However, a secret ending in the game allowed you to perform on stage with the band, opposed to simply watching the show from the crowd.
GWAR, and particularly Brockie, have been described as a major influence to a lot of Metal and Rock performers since. He will be greatly missed.
