Before the movie :

From as far as i remember i always heard talking about the original movies, the first one i saw was Burton's one which was ok  , but i didn't really get why the franchise was so praised, then i saw the old ones and the first was my favorite. When Rise of the Planet of the Apes came out i loved it so i hoped Dawn would be as good and won't be a blank action movie where humans fight apes.

Movie Plot :

After the events of Rise, the ALZ-113 triggered a simian flu, martial law is declared, economy is collapsing and civil fights are expanding, a huge part of the human civilization disappeared.

Ten years later, Caesar is the leader of an apes society leaving in the woods, sometimes wondering if some humans survived, he'll have an answer when his son (Blue Eyes) and Rocket's son (Ash) meet a group of humans in the woods and one of them panick and shoots Ash, wounding him. The rest of the apes arrive and Caesar orders the humans to leave.

Caesar leads a group of apes to the city where he tells the humans to never come back in the woods and leaves without fighting. Dreyfus, the human leader, wants to go there with and fight because they need a hydroelectric dam that is in the woods, his friend Carver convinces him to give him 3 days to convince Caesar to allow them to repair and use the dam. In the other camp, Caesar wants to keep peace but Koba hates humans for all he had to suffer before and wants to attack.

Is a peace possible ? Can the two civilizations coexist or is war inevitable ?

My impressions :

+ The CGI is gorgeous. The apes are showing more emotions than some real actors/actress.
+ The beginning. The start of the movie is 10/15 minutes without any word, we are looking at the apes who communicate with signs (subtitled for viewers) and noises. This is a nice way to show how the apes evolved and shows how much the movie is about them.
+ Koba. His hate, his violence and his opposition to Caesar's ideas makes him an interesting character who steals the scenes he appears in with a simple look.
+ The humans goal. It would have been easy to make a group of mercenaries go after the apes, the idea of the hydroelectric dam at the crossing between both camps is a good pretext to have them meet.
+ Music. I came home humming some of the musics while driving, it's rare enough to be noticed.
+ Emotion. This is the most moving movie i've seen lately, i really cared about these apes.

- Some humans. Foster is a useless character and Carver's hate toward apes is a bit simple and just turns him into that character who always does dumb things.

To conclude, this movie is awesome. The action is great, the characters are great, there is emotion, it looks gorgeous, there is nothing more to ask for. I loved it and would tell you to go watch it.
