<big><big>God Bless America</big></big>
Before the movie :
God Bless America is one of the movies a friend of mine told me i might like it because i almost completely stopped watching TV years ago because of how shitty it is. I have a list of older movies to watch so if there are really good or really bad ones, i might write reviews about them to encourage you to watch it and discuss about it.
Movie Plot :
Frank is a simple man, all he wants is people to be polite, have some respect and a little bit clever but the reality is different, his neighbors, his coworkers and almost everyone around him is rude and only talk about dumb TV (or radio) shows and he finds it infuriating.
One day he is fired and soon after, learns that the reason behind is headaches is that he has a brain tumor. Divorced, his daughter doesn't want to see him, the poor guy is broken and sticks a gun in his mouth sitting in front of the TV but he sees a reality show about Chloe, a spoiled little bitch complaining that her parents didn't buy her the car she wanted for her 16th birthday and that will give Frank an idea, and he doesn't commit suicide.
The next day he steals his neighbor's car and go to the college to kill the dumb brat, he is seen by Roxy, a student who hated Chloe, who will find him and join him on a quest to kill cruel and stupid people who deserve to die (according to Frank)
My impressions :
+ The casting. The main characters aren't played by huge stars, Joel Murray starred in Tv shows and some movies, Tara Lynne Barr is playing her first non-TV role. It would be hypoticritical to have a huge star to play them.
+ Frank's character is very likeable. The poor guy had a shitty life and hated everything around him for years but never spoke up, he becomes a killer because he has lost everything.
+ The story. We all wanted to beat the hell out of someone we saw on TV or kick one of our friend's ass because he only knows what he sees on reality shows or people magazines, the movie just takes it to an extreme level.
- Roxy. The problem isn't the character, the way she interacts with Frank is good but her reason for joining him isn't great.
To conclude, would I suggest you to watch it ? Yes, the ideas behind this movie are great, if you already think the same way it's interesting and if you don't, the movie will make you think about it. It's also a great outlet, it's violent but not stupid and the main character is touching. It takes the viewer's head and sticks our nose in our shit because, let's be honest, if there are so many reality shows and other stupid things it's because a lot of people are watching it.
I think this movie must be seen by more people.
