It is being reported by several websites that the reason why Alberto Del Rio won the World Title is to begin his push.
Del Rio has said in many interviews that he is planning to retire after a few years. But the WWE has been blown away with the positive reactions that Del Rio has received as a babyface. The move was meant to be temporary, but they may now keep going in this direction for as long as possible. They feel that he, after Rey Mysterio, is the most over hispanic star in the company. Officials are happy enough with his ring work, and there is no real reason to not push him. There is a bigger need to create stars than ever before, and the feeling is that Del Rio is almost there.
The reason why the Last Man Standing match was booked was so he could take a major beating before coming back and scoring a major win. Expect Del Rio to be in the World Title match at WrestleMania.
On the other hand, don't expect to see much more from Rey Mysterio. The feeling backstage is that management are hiding something from the rest of the roster. Wrestlers are expecting to hear Mysterio announce his retirement before SummerSlam.
And Sin Cara's push may be over. He had been pushed heavily since he first debuted, but he has improved little since then. He has developed a reputation for doing noticeable botches during matches. There was major hopes that teaming with Rey Mysterio would help Cara improve his in-ring ability and improve his English. But he has progressed far too slowly.
As previously reported, El Generico has recently been signed by the WWE. Generico is well known for portraying a fake luchadore on the independent scene. Expect there to be genuine luchadores joining him.
At this time, the planned Mysterio vs Cara match is still planned for WrestleMania. But it may be used to put over Mysterio on his way out, instead of Cara.
