PREFACE

Hello, and welcome to my "article" on how to create texture modifications for wrestlers, on WWF No Mercy, hopefully as extensive and in-depth as I can make it, so newbies have little to no excuse not to give it a shot.

RECOMMENDED:

- Knowing how to run the games in an emulator.
- Enable the cheat "Have/Unlock All".
- Click the images to enlarge, I've reduced it as to not visually pollute the post.

PART 1: CREATING A CAW

Let's start with the very, very basics. Texture modifications using plugins. Scary, right? How those work? Miracle? Rocket science? Black magic?

Actually, yes to all of those, but don't tell anyone, in exchange, I'll teach you how to create magic:

First off, decide who you wanna create. It can be anyone, really, but for this example, lets suppose I wanna create Goldberg. The first step, is finding a render, or reference image, ideally of the entire body, but the more, the merrier.

From there, you can tell a lot of things. The format of his headshape, jaw, nose, eyes, take note of all these things and how Goldberg's face differs from, well, everyone else's, and then think how this translates to the options the game gives you. So, for Goldberg, I decided to go for: Skin tone 2, Body "Hairy 2", Headshape 1, Face "Male 94", tattoo "Original 3", and the attire, I leave it up to you.

While I aim to make this the most intricate tutorial possible, I'm probably not gonna cover wrestler creation, even in future revisions. Look up tutorials out there, it's not hard at all.

Now, here's the catch! You want to absolutely ruin this CAW, while keeping the head/hair/body shapes. This is sometimes referred to as the "flamboyant pirate" method.

It's simple, actually. Each combination of clothing, tatoos, colors, hair and every little detail you can change in a character, is seem as it's own unique texture. With that in mind, however, most of the default wrestlers (and even CAWs) don't have many "crazy unique" combinations.

You want a practical example? Hand textures. Here, I've dumped Kurt Angle's (skin tone 4) bare hand texture.

Now I'm gonna edit it to include a smiley face.

So, what's the problem? Well, you'll notice it when you check other characters with skin tone 4 and no hand accessories.

Christian, Edge and Eddie Guerrero, who share skin tone (and bare hands) with Kurt Angle. As you can see, the texture affected them.

And that's why you need to make your textures as unique as possible, so it doesn't interfere with other characters.

First thing you wanna do, is choose the plugin you want to use for this:

(RICE)
RECOMMENDED - COMPATIBLE WITH MOBILE AND OTHER EMULATORS

GlideN64 (Latest Release)*
Mudlord's Rice Plugin 6.1.4**

(JABO)
Jabo's Direct3D 1.7

*IF YOU USE GLIDEN64, PATCH YOUR PROJECT 64.EXE WITH THIS.
**IF YOU USE MUDLORD RICE 6.1.4 ON WINDOWS 8/10, MAKE SURE TO RUN AS ADMIN, WITH WINDOWS 7 COMPATIBILITY.

I'm gonna assume you already know how to install and activate plugins, at least. First, on Project 64, you want to go to Options -> Configure Graphics Plugin. From there, the magic happens.

Let's use spoiler tags to cover each plugin:

STEP 1. Go to Texture Enhancement -> Texture pack. There, enable Use texture pack  and then, check the Texture dump directory. That's where your textures are going to be.
