It was revealed on Raw that Lita will be going into this year’s Hall Of Fame.
Lita will be added to the Women’s wing of the Hall. She got the nod over rumoured favourites Chyna and Stacy Keibler. She will be joining already confirmed entrants Ultimate Warrior and Jake “The Snake†Roberts.
Lita grew up close to the Hardyz, Hurricane Helms, Shannon Moore and Steve Corino. She detested wrestling, but was fascinated by the Mexican luchadores. She trained in the lucha libre style, and later joined ECW as Miss Congeniality, the valet and girlfriend of “Dastardly†Danny Doring. She then signed with the WWE, making her debut appearance as one of the Godfather’s Hos.
She officially debuted as Essa Rios’ valet in January 2000. She impressed fans by performing Moonsaults, Tornado DDTs, Planchas and other classic luchadore moves on Rios’ rivals. She later joined the Hardy Boyz as the female member of Team 3Xtreme. It was during this time she began a feud with Trish Stratus that lasted their entire WWE tenures. It was also during this time she revealed her real-life relationship with Matt Hardy. She would briefly hold the Women’s Championship, beating Stephanie McMahon in a match refereed by The Rock. She would become Chyna’s final WWE opponent. She spent a year as a commentator alongside Jonathan Coachman after sustaining a broken neck.
She defeated Trish Stratus to win her second Women’s Championship in December 2004. This match was the first (and only) time that a women’s match has featured as the main event at a major WWE event, being broadcast live on Raw. Prior to this, she featured in the first women’s steel cage match. In 2005, her short affair with the newly married Edge became public knowledge. Lita suddenly took on a more risqué and sexier persona, portraying Edge’s on screen girlfriend. Her third Women’s Championship reign ended with Stratus’ retirement match. Her fourth title reign ended with her retirement match, passing the title onto Mickie James.
Lita has remained one of the most popular Divas of all time, serving as an inspiration to many other women who would follow in her footsteps. She has inspired more women to include high risk moves into their move sets.
