Before the movie :

Luc Besson's old movies are some i enjoy watching everytime it's on TV, 5th element being a must see, but since Angel-A in 2005, i didn't like one of his movies and had high hopes for Lucy to be the movie that would change that.

Movie Plot :

Lucy is a young american student living in Taiwan, her new boyfriend involves her into some business with drug dealers. She wakes up with a cut on her abdomen and learns that the korean mob has put drugs into her, she and 3 other people will be used as mules.

During her captivity, one of the captors kicks her, breaking open one of the bags and release some of the drug into her system. Lucy wakes up with new abilities, she is using more of her brain and it keeps increasing, unleashing new powers.

What will happen when she will use 100 % of her brain ?

My impressions :

+ The first part of the movie where Lucy is scared about what what is happening.
+ Some pretty looking scenes.
+ Only 90 minutes.

- Stupid opening scene.
- Mom phonecall during the operation, i won't spoil what is said but it's weird as shit.
- The second part, i feel that the more Lucy uses her brain, the dumber the movie becomes.
- The movie shows animals videos to make parallels with what is happening, it's almost insulting for the viewers like "in case you didn't get it, let's show you in a simpler way".
- The more Lucy uses her brain, the less she has emotions, turning her into a terminator.
- Morgan Freeman's character at the end is explaining everything Lucy is doing, if he wasn't you wouldn't understand what is happening onscreen. I don't think it's a great thing, it's like a joke, if you have to explain it then there's something wrong, especially when it's the end.

To conclude, this movie is a disappointment. There were some comparisons with Limitless which isn't very accurate except for "the enhancing brain drug" but if had to follow that lead i would say that Lucy is Limitless if it had a sexier lead and a dumber story. The trailer was interesting but the movie isn't as good as you'd expect. I'd advice you to not waste time in theatre and wait for a dvd release if you want to watch it.
