In yet another step backwards for TNA, two promising UK stars have been removed from the roster.
Katrina "Winter" Waters' website has confirmed that she is no longer with the company. This has followed months of speculation regarding her status. While the website suggests that Winter wanted to leave, the reality is that TNA did not offer to renew her contract, which recently expired.
Mark Haskins has also been released, after only one match in the company. Haskins famously injured himself in his debut match in his home country. He botched his finisher, a shooting star press, landing on his face. His opponent Austin Aries was not aware of the incident, and went for the planned finish. Haskins was unable to prepare properly for the kick to the head, the brainbuster and then Last Chancery submission. The fall, and the following combination of moves left Haskins with a severe concussion and a neck injury.
The official word is that many stars are being asked to take pay cuts, or even released, as cost cutting measures. However, some members of staff are worried that the money saved will be offered to Hulk Hogan when his contract expires next month.
The reason why British wrestlers are being released or taken off television is to push Magnus. Magnus, Douglas Williams, Winter and Mark Haskins are all from the England, with Magnus being the least popular of the four. Magnus had been featured very heavily on UK broadcasts for over a year, and TNA maintains that he has a huge UK fan base. But in reality, he is struggling to get over.
