As previously reported, TNA has launched a new reality show on British TV called 'British Boot Camp'. The show is about four British wrestlers competing for a spot on the main TNA roster. The contestants are Marty Scurll, Helen Blossom, Hannah Blossom and Rockstar Spud.
Early reports indicated that it has been the highest rated program on the channel this week. The first 2 episodes were aired back-to-back prior to a re-run of the previous episode of Impact Wrestling. At the same time, Impact Wrestling aired immediately afterwards and did poorly. It is worth pointing out that the UK edition of Xplosion normally does better than Impact Wrestling too. It should be noted that Challenge TV is considered a "minor network" in the UK. Some digital providers include it among the shopping channels due to the amount of air time dedicated to telemarketing and phone-in gambling.
So far, much of the wrestling based media in the UK has focused on Rockstar Spud. The Fight Network ran for one year in the UK as The Wrestling Channel. Spud made his professional debut around the same time, and his rookie year remained heavily in the spotlight of British Wrestling. All UK-based wrestling websites, magazines and shows see this as Spud's long-deserved debut with a major company. He is also a favorite of some OSR members. [Note: The competition is not over, and Rockstar Spud has not yet received a contract.]
The rest of the British media has been focused solely on the Blossom Twins. Although it was indicated in the second episode that all 4 wrestlers were involved with media interviews, most magazines and newspapers have ignored Spud and Scurll. The fascination is because the Blossom Twins are beautiful women who work as teaching assistants in a primary (grade) school. The sisters have tried to get their two careers separate, but insists upon making this a major marketing point for the pair.
As pointed out several times by Spud, Marty Scurll is better known for his appearance on Dating game show in the UK. He was a contestant on the second series of 'Take Me Out', being the second professional wrestler on the show. A male contestant is given 3 chances (5 minutes) to impress 30 women at once. Interested women will keep a light on, and then the contestant can whittle down the remainder to one girl. The last remaining girl will then go on a date with the contestant on an island resort. It is considered embarrassing for men to appear on the show. Most contestants are rejected by at least 2 dozen women, and nearly all successful contestants fail to get a relationship from the show.
