Survivor Series has only just went on the air, and already management are unhappy.
The problem is the very low buy-rate. Early pay-per-view buy rates are much lower than expected, and they are still trying to sell the remaining tickets to fill empty seats. But the biggest blow has been the poor subscription rate on the WWE Network.
The WWE were expecting to make a financial loss tonight. They had heavily advertised the pay-per-view as being free to WWE Network subscribers. Pay-per-views are already free on the Network, but there was no subscription fee for new subscribers this month. The plan was to get the Network to over 1 million subscribers by December 1st. They have already failed to meet this target twice this year already. Due to the number of people unsubscribing, they still are not close to their target.
This is particularly embarrassing for the WWE because they went all out to promote this event. The main event is Team Cena vs Team Authority. Due to the low demand, the WWE repeatedly added new stipulations and repeatedly changed the line up to attract interest. They have also intentionally started rumours about un-advertised talent making appearances at the event.
It is possible that things will turn around with people ordering the replay or subscribing to the Network within the next week. But for now, Management are seeing it as a lost battle.
