<big><big>Only God Forgives</big></big> MAY CONTAIN SPOILERS
Before the movie : I loved Drive so when i heard there was another movie by the same realisator and starring Gosling i was interested to see if it would be the as good as Drive. (I saw the movie months ago)
Movie Plot :
Julian (Gosling) lives in Thailand to hide from American justice, he runs a boxe thaï club in Bangkok which is used to hide a drug trafficking business, his brother Billy rapes and kills a teen prostitute and is caught by the police, the lieutenant leaves the father of the victim alone with Billy and lets him beat the guy to death, then he cuts the father's hand for letting his daughter being a prostitute.
Julian and his guys confront the father but he spares his life after.
Julian's mother, Crystal (Kristin Scott Thomas) comes to Bangkok, she wants Billy to be avneged and tells Julian to kill the father but he refuses, Crystal will send one of his men to kill the old man.
A whole game of revenge and justice is set, leading to confrontation and violence.
My impressions :
+ The visual ambiance is original and the soundtrack goes well with it
- Boring
- Felt absolutely no empathy for the characters
To conclude, Drive was good, even if it was slow i really got into it, liked the characters, Only God Forgives is...well, i had the impression to watch a movie in slowmotion, i couldn't care less about the characters fate : this one got killed, i don't even remember who he is; another one got both hands cut off, well shit happens to everyone why bother about him ? If there wasn't the soundtrack i would have fell asleep while watching the movie. Other use of the soundtrack is, i didn't give a sh*t about anyone in this movie so when something happened the music was here to tell me : here you should be sad for him, here he is angry, etc... Overall, a bad movie.
