Out of the Furnace MAY CONTAIN SPOILERS

Before the movie :

I wanted to make the first review of 2014 on Old Boy but none of the 2 theaters near me were showing that movie, so i went to see Out of the Furnace because of it's plot about vengeance and it's cast which includes Christian Bale, Woody Harrelson, Forrest Whitaker and Willem Dafoe.

Movie Plot :

In Braddock, a working-class suburb, Russell Baze (Bale) and his young brother Rodney (Casey Affleck) are trying to live as best as possible. Russell works at the factory and Rodney joined the army, but someday, Russell has a drunk driving accident and is sent to jail.
Russell keeps it low in prison and avoids trouble, his brother was sent 4 times in Iraq and struggles to earn money, that's why he is involved in illegal fights organized by John Petty (Dafoe).
Now out of jail, Russell would like his brother to get a real job but his brother doesn't want to stop right now, he asks Petty to contact Curtis DeGroat (Harrelson) and organise a last fight. Petty owes a lot of money to DeGroat and when they leave the mountain after the fight they are killed by DeGroat.
Russell doesn't trust the police chief (Whitaker) to catch DeGroat and will seek revenge by himself.

My impressions :

+ The cast. Everyone plays it's part well.
+ The movie his well made for the viewers to like the main characters and doesn't rush into an action packed movie.
+ The soundtrack. It's not often that i care a lot about it but the musics adds to the quiet and sad feeling of the movie, it's not just there to accompany the images.

- It's slow, really slow. I didn't want an acion movie with explosions everywhere but the part where Russell his trying to avenge his brother could have been a bit less slow.

To conclude, there is not much to say about this movie, it's nice but that's all. If you want to watch it go, it's not a bad movie but if you're not sure i won't tell you to rush to the theater for that movie because it has nothing special or impressive.
