The WWE announced the week before the Royal Rumble that there would be an NXT tournament and the winner would get into the Rumble match itself. That man was Bo Dallas, and he is now a part of the main WWE television shows. However, WrestleZone reported on Feb. 1 that his appearance caused a surprise entrant to get bumped from the Rumble.
Heading into the Royal Rumble, names like Carlito, Shelton Benjamin, Chris Masters and Hurricane Shane Helms were all seen in Arizona and all became distinct possibilities to take part in the event. None of them showed up in the Rumble, although it looks like one of them was supposed to.
Shelton Benjamin and Carlito were in town for an independent show the night before the Royal Rumble, and Benjamin was supposed to take part in the big event as well. However, when the WWE decided to add Bo Dallas to the Rumble match, it was Benjamin who was bumped.
Ring of Honor recently released Benjamin from his contract so he could attempt to return to the WWE. While in Ring of Honor, Benjamin and his tag team partner Charlie Haas were contenders to the world tag team titles as Wrestling's Greatest Tag Team.
This week, Ring of Honor announced a big World Tag Team Championship match pitting Haas and Benjamin against The Briscoes this Saturday, where if The Briscoes win, Haas and Benjamin have to split up and never team in Ring of Honor again. That makes it look like ROH is writing Shelton Benjamin out of the company's storylines, meaning a WWE return might be coming soon.[/quote]
