Quote:

Ryback addressed oft-made comparisons between himself and Bill Goldberg during an interview published in the latest issue of WWE Magazine. He said they don't bother him and that "people are misinformed."

"People see a big guy with a shaved head who's intense, and they draw those comparisons," said Ryback. "I will say this: Goldberg did this for the money. He was never a fan of wrestling. I do this because I have a passion for it, and that's the biggest difference between Goldberg and me. I'm not here to make five million dollars and then walk away. I'm here for life. And, I firmly believe that I'm much better than he was in the ring. He was great, and I was a fan of his when I was younger. But, I feel I'm a better athlete and wrestler than Goldberg ever was, and people are going to see that over time." [/quote]Seriously?

Opinions man, opinions. Let's say I was a wrestler, and I said I was better than the whole Four Horsemen and all their incarnations. Am I right? No. But it's my opinion, and that's what I think. Ryback could think he was better than any 90's wrestler, and he would be absolutely wrong, but it's still his opinion.

Also... he does have a point about both men's motivations for getting into the business. I love it when fanboys become superstars.

I do think he's better than Goldberg as of now. Hey, at least he sells a bit.

The motivation part is the only part Ryback got right.

The main reason why people draw comparisons between Goldberg and Ryback is because Ryback IS using Goldberg's gimmick. And Ryback keeps extending his list of signature moves to include those that Goldberg frequently used. Correct me if I am wrong, but hasn't be been using the spear as a set up to the finisher lately? He even has Goldberg's old habit of botching moves that involve lifting the opponent.

As for the other things he said, they aren't true... yet. If he is a better wrestler, he needs to show it. And he is not a better athlete that the football player who did martial arts to unwind.

But the motivation part is the real difference. If Ryback is being honest about that, then his other claims will be made true in time. Because he has the opportunity to do something that Goldberg never did... IMPROVE.

I thought the clothesline was his set up move? Hmm. Actually got to defend his moveset a bit. Goldberg and him are using the generic muscular big man moveset, but Ryback's moveset is actually more arcade-like. Come on, he uses triple powerbomb as a normal move.

As for the botching, wasn't it only on Tensai?

No. He botches in almost every single match. Usually it is because of the finisher.

And what is so special about his finisher? It is just a samoan drop with an awkward lift up.

I really don't know why Goldberg's all "OH HEY GUYS I WAS IN THE NFL SO I MUST BE BETTER THAN RYBACK HEHEHEHE!" It's not like he was a star player or anything. Sure it takes a lot of strength to be in the NFL, but bragging when you didn't do sh*t in it makes you look less credible.

The idea that professional wrestlers or American footballers are athletes is a myth. You would only dare call a small group of either athletes. Both professions like to hire guys who are huge or are bodybuilders. Sure, they can charge at you like a freight train. But of they can't physically take part in sports that they are not a part of, then they aren't athletes.

Shelton Benjamin and Jack Swagger are athletes. Goldberg and Ryback are not.

First off... Rag.... you're my boy, but to say professional football players are not athletes is inane. Just... don't open that can of worms. You are wrong, end of story, mister. :)

of course Ryback is a Goldberg clone.. big deal. He's a GOOD Goldberg clone, and I enjoy having another big brute that looks scary messing people up. It's awesome. Not like Bill would ever come back full time and give it the effort Ryback has put in. He's a perfect example of giving the fans what they want.... we wanted Goldberg for a long time, but he's getting older and doesn't have the passion to come back for a good run. So we get Ryback.

And he's everything we need him to be, a hulk, a spectacle, and by no means a tactician. He doesn't need to be. We want to see some awesome feats of strength and people get plowed like they were hit by a truck.

Botches? I don't care. He's young, he's green, and its okay.

At first I didn't like Ryback, but the chap has grown on me, because I managed to stop complaining about him being a rip-off of another wrestler and just started taking it at face value. He's different than the rest of the roster. We need and want different.

Feed him more. Starting with all of you twat-waffles!

edit: My only argument about wrestlers ripping off other wrestlers:

I am not wrong. Most American footballers are not athletes. Only a small group of them are. If you want to extend the same argument to British soccer, I would immediately agree.

...I don't get it. But eh, usually i can see botches a mile away, but Ryback's one has deluded me. I must have been more forgiving because of his gimmick as a freaking tank. Hahaha.

The goldberg-ryback comparison is invalid , they have nothing in common except being shaved powerhouses , the gimmick is different and so is the moveset , i personally prefer ryback
