The WWE confirmed on their website, app and social media accounts on Friday that Hulk Hogan will be the official host of WrestleMania.
But there is talk of having Hogan as the onscreen General Manager for both Raw and SmackDown once the pay-per-view is over.
The WWE had been planning to have a legend serve as the General Manager for both brands since before WrestleMania 29. Suggested names have included Ric Flair, Dusty Rhodes and Sting.
Hogan will not be allowed to compete in matches or take bumps. He recently underwent a medical and was not cleared to compete. Hogan publicly claimed that he had passed testing, but a WWE doctor was quick to deny this.
It is not known whether or not Flair has a solid contract with WWE right now. He has made several infrequent appearances over the past year. The WWE are still unhappy with Flair for making the press conference for the WWE 2K14 video game interesting, and for various other personal problems. Also, Flair had been dealing with the sudden death of his son Reid. Triple H reportedly warned Flair that he needed to get himself in order before the WWE would offer him a deal. Since then, they have been happy with his improvements. Flair claims that he has already done his WWE medical, but this may not be the case yet.
Dusty Rhodes was put out of the running after annoying Stephanie McMahon. The wrestling legend and multi-time world champion did not allow Stephanie to belittle him in an scripted segment on Raw. He has not featured on WWE programming since.
The reason why Sting will not be General Manager is simply because he does not have a contract. This is the WWE's fault as they have not been taking negotiations seriously. They have been going well, with Sting genuinely wanting to sign with the company. No-one knows why the WWE side have been taking things so slowly.
Whoever gets the role will also be involved with hosting WCW based programming on the WWE Network, taking over from DDP and Gene Okerlund.
