You have likely already heard all about this, but “broadcast journalist” Nancy Grace has offended a lot of people this week by attributing Ultimate Warrior’s death to steroids… the DAY AFTER HE DIED.

Diamond Dallas Page was invited onto her show to talk about Warrior, who passed away on Tuesday afternoon. However, DDP had no idea that she wanted to talk about steroid abuse and young wrestler deaths until the show was live on the air. Nancy repeatedly insisted that there were rumours of current steroid and drug abuse being linked to Warrior’s death, which is only true because this interview actually started said rumours. Nancy was told that Warrior’s death was officially declared a “catastrophic medical event”. She promptly translated this to heart attack caused by steroid abuse, even though a formal autopsy and toxicology report have not yet been completed.

During the broadcast, a list of wrestlers who died under the age of 45 appeared on screen. It was implied that they had all died of steroid or drug misuse. Most notably, Owen Hart and Chris Candido appeared on the list too. DDP did not know about the list until Nancy asked for it to be shown for a second time (DDP was not able to see anything that was onscreen). He can be heard reacting once he realises such a list was being shown. He later said that he would not have gone onto the show if he knew about the list in advance.

DDP pointed out that Warrior had tried to keep himself in top physical shape, and refused to say Warrior had indeed suffered a heart attack as this was not yet confirmed. He also explained that the WWE had a new testing system designed to detect the abuse of muscle relaxers and painkillers, as well as steroids and illegal drugs. He suggested that Jake “The Snake” Roberts and Scott Hall should’ve died because of their drug use, HOWEVER, he believes their lives had been prolonged because of the intervention of WWE medical testing. He pointed out that the WWE’s testing was much more advanced and detailed than the policies used currently by the NFL and the NBA. Nancy questioned the effectiveness of the testing because so many wrestlers still died drug related deaths. At one point, DDP said that he was not a doctor, to which Nancy sarcastically quipped, “I don’t think anyone could accuse you of being a medical doctor.”

The list is quite controversial for a lot of reasons. The first reason is because drugs had nothing to do with the deaths of nearly half of the named wrestlers. Many of the others had died of organ failures which may or may not have had anything to do with drug use. It should also be noted that none of the named wrestlers have ever been tested by the WWE’s Wellness Policy, and most had died before it was ever introduced.

Owen Hart died as the result of a disastrous fall. The quick release mechanism was accidentally struck, causing Owen to fall from the rafters and onto a ring post. He died from his injuries. Chris Candido died from complications following surgery. He had an operation on a broken leg, which later formed the blood clot that killed him.

D.J. Peterson, Brady Boone and Joey Marella all died in vehicle accidents. Marella had tried to drive while tired and feel asleep at the wheel. Marella was the only person involved with the crash who was not wearing a seatbelt. Boone also died when another car collided with the one he was in. Peterson died after crashing on his motorcycle.

The cause of Rick McGraw’s death is still unknown, but is believed to be caused by his injuries. Art Barr’s cause of death is also unknown. While Barr did have alcohol and drugs in his system, these have been ruled out as causes.

Gary Albright died of heart failure caused my multiple medical problems, including diabetes and blocked arteries. Mark Curtis was a victim of stomach and bowel cancer.

Many wrestlers have commented on the sickening report. The only person who had anything positive to say about Nancy was Jim Ross, who is choosing to believe that her researchers had set her up. This is actually the SECOND time that Nancy caused controversy this week. She claimed that the jurors in the Oscar Pistorious should have told Pistorious to “suck it up”, because his emotional reactions while giving evidence was delaying the trial.

I went on Nancy Grace last night expecting to discuss Warrior the man. Had I known the only topic discussed would be steroids I would not have participated. At the time I was also unaware of the list that was shown to the viewing audience. To imply that all of the wrestlers on that list died from steroids was wrong and for that they owe the families an apology. Again, my only intention was to discuss Warrior the man and share some stories about how dedicated he was to the wrestling business. I am saddened that was not what happened and my thoughts remain with his family.

I think our beloved sister-in-law Martha as well as my entire family should be tremendously offended by the implication of Nancy Grace that my brother Owen’s demise had anything to do with drugs or steroids. For her to attempt to capitalise on Warrior’s death while his family grieves for personal choices he may have made more than 20 years ago is a sad to day for what passes as journalism today. Breaking news; Many rock stars have snorted cocaine in the 80’s. Perhaps we should shut down the entire music industry. We should not buy into any of their such ridiculous libellous statements. We will hear official details from the coroner this weekend and not from gossip journalist.

Nancy Grace has a biased opinion of our industry! She is overlooking the fact that a wife and children lost their husband and father! I guess it’s true what they say, “only bad news is news” all good things @WWE does as a company and she’s stuck in the mud!”

Why are folks surprised by Nancy Grace?? She got dumped by a pro-wrestler in the ‘80s and started a life quest to be just awful… …if she was remotely confident in her accusations, she’d interview an active talent, yet she won’t do that because she’d have a… “Mark Cuban / Skip Bayless” situation, and she would come-off as the ignorant sweathog she actually is.”

The polarising Nancy Grace of HLN really was made to look ill-informed and poorly prepared by her staff Wednesday night on her report of the death of the Ultimate Warrior. So much erroneous info was reported as fact that I actually felt bad for her. I’d like to believe that Ms Grace is not a mean person but she let down by her producers and research people notwithstanding those who wrote her script for her teleprompter. For Ms Grace to implicate Owen Hart into any drug or steroid scandal is egregious and appalling.

Pro wrestling / sports entertainment is given little credit by the mainstream news media and, as we have seen, seemingly the only time the genre is mentioned is when there is a tragedy. I never heard anyone talking about the economic impact that WrestleMania had on NOLA or the hundreds of Make A Wish interactions that are granted, the work WWE does with the Susan B. Komen Breast Cancer organisation, the support done in conjunction with the United States Armed Forces, among other great causes.

Good news isn’t news in today’s society or so it seems. That’s truly a damn shame. Ms Grace was made to look incompetent by her own people who seemingly relied on old info for the thrust of their story on Warrior and apparently did little new research on the sports entertainment world as it exists today. I’d like to say that I’m surprised by I’m not. Sensationalistic, controversial journalism is what sells and ‘selling’ i.e. ratings is all that matters when it comes to TV news on virtually every network.

Which is why Fox News keeps her. They love a good shock jock.

Nancy Grace is about as appealing as sticking my dick in a wood chipper.

She doesn't work for Fox, she works for HLN, which is owned by CNN.

One fake news outlet for another. Just shock jocks beng shock jocks. All the free press the wrestling world has been giving her the last two days is probably considered a good sign at her office.

Shes always pushing the negative side of things, I try my best to ignore her. I actually saw on facebook the ad they did for it and I was like hoping it wasn't gonna be a screw job. Its fucking sad to learn not only was its a screw job, they fucking put DDP on a crucifix while doing it. Sure this is what she wanted, whether it be bad or not, she wanted people talking about her. Fuck that cunt.
