so i was going through my computer and found this i wrote it some time ago but thought i would post it
today I’m going to write about territories and how it would help the wrestling industry. the first and most obvious one is competition it would make wwe have to compete for its fan base which would mean better matches and all round improvement’s to its product. if you remember when wcw where head to head with wwe in the Monday night wars wwe and wcw all benefited from the rivalry and competition. they produced some of the most compelling moments in wrestling history and sent the fans home happy but if we look back even further to the late 60s early 70s territories where in their prime. you had the nwa wwwf awa and all the local promotions so you had a lot to choose from. all the bookers where vying for your attention which in turn produced a lot of great rivalry’s and memorable moments, and helped get wrestling to become what it is today. Secondly it would produce much more great talent because wrestlers could hone their craft for years and learn how to work a crowd and become major stars for their respected territory. Which in turn would produce a bigger talent pool to choose from? Look at all the legendary wrestlers the territory’s produced like ric flare who worked for nearly every promotion of the 70s and 80s and has held just about every tittle of merit in this industry or Harley race a legend of the territories. most legends from the 70s and 80s where a product of the territories so now let’s go back to the 90s where the territories had dissipated and there were only three major companies in the usa, which where ecw wcw and the wwf. Something special happened a revaluation started ecw was born a different company with a different style it breathed fresh air in to something that was growing stale it brought something new to the table it pushed the envelope and grew its fan base and became a rapid contender in the wrestling business. it did thing’s that no company in the usa had done before and as a result it succeeded and change the scope of pro wrestling for ever if it wasn’t for ecw we would have had no attitude era. ecw is a special promotion and a great example for what I’m about to talk about next. Let’s look at the current land scape of pro wrestling In America you have two major promotions in wwe and tna and one regional in roh with other respectable promotions like dragon gate usa and pro wrestling guerrilla producing smaller Indy shows. Well lets look at ring of honor it has a solid roster with talented athletes it has produced some fantastic matches over the years and has a cult following it just needs to get some international air time. wwe has been around a long time and has grown stale and boring and is squandering it’s bright young talent and producing sub-par matches with horrible storylines, and on occasion it produces something that will remind you of what wrestling is all about (the cmpunk story line last year) . Tna on the other hand are a cheap imitation of the wwe that have okay matches a solid roster of young capable wrestlers and old legends hogging the spotlight, with mediocre and sometimes ridicules story lines but it still has a loyal fan base tna need to work on producing better story lines and stop booking DQ finishes for major matches. Now it’s time for some wrestling theory let’s image wwe is the wwf and tna is wcw and the shining light over there is roh which resembles ecw it’s not hard to image is it. The current land scape is not that different to what it was eighteen years ago two major company’s and one on the cusp of greatness and all they need to do is compete they need to ignite a fire they need a new revolution and I think roh is the product to do that wrestling need’s more competition that is a fact and territories are something that would produce that competition. We need promotions to band together and fight the wwe and give the fans what they want and only then will the wwe listen
