Before the movie :

I saw a lot of promos for this movie, didn't know it was based on an old TV series. I wanted to watch Horns but the cinema doesn't project it so it was either Dracula untold or Equalizer, and after the trailers i saw, the choice was easy to make.

Movie Plot :

Robert McCall is working at Home Mart where he is a nice guy, always talking and helping his coworkers when they need it, he has a routine and every night he goes in a bar to drink a tee, read a book and talk with Teri (whose real name is Alina), a young hooker who dreams to become a singer.
Someday, Robert and Teri are walking together when her pimp slaps her and takes her away, the day after when Robert goes to the bar he learns that the poor girl is in intensive care after she got brutally beaten, Robert goes to her pimp and proposes 9800$ to be left alone by the russian mafia but the pimp refuses, 30 seconds later all of them are dead, killed by Robert.
Vladimir Pushkin, the boss of the russian mafia, sends Teddy to find and kill the guy who slaughtered his men, to survive Robert will have to become someone he vowed to never be again.

My impressions :

+ Denzel Washington is great, balancing between the kind guy at work and the cold blooded killer.
+ Nice action scenes, they're not a revolution but i liked the "Sherlock Holmesesque" thing of slowing time and zooming on important objects before things happen, it shows that Robert isn't a street fighter but a well trained warrior, calculating every move he does, which is also shown with his obsession of chronometring everything he does.
+ No useless love story.

- Scenario is something we have seen times and times again.
- Not enough Chloe Grace Moretz, at one point she disappears only to be seen a long time later in the movie.
- 2hrs12mn, the movie could have easily been shorter by 30 mns. You don't get bored watching it but there are some scenes where it's getting a bit long for nothing.

To conclude, The Equalizer is a nice action film and that's all it is. It doesn't have the pretention to be this year's best film, it's cool and entertaining, even if we already saw the scenario again and again before, something to watch if you have a few hours free; .
