The headline was being serious. TNA have officially announced that this year's Bound For Glory pay-per-view will be live from Tokyo, Japan.
TNA President Dixie Carter and Wrestle-1 promoter the Great Muta made the announcement today at a press conference in New York City. Dixie did reveal that Muta would be competing at the TNA show in the city tonight. But she gave no clue about the ground-breaking announcement until it had happened. This is a sign that TNA's relationship with Wrestle-1 will continue beyond the original 1 year deal.
The WWE has tried for years to hold a pay-per-view outside of North America. They once held a SummerSlam in England in 1992, and then a New Year's Revolution in Puerto Rico in 2007. They have tried to hold pay-per-views in Japan too, but they have never succeeded. So the 10th anniversary of Bound For Glory is a huge deal.
This is much needed good news after a terrible year. Despite getting rid of Hulk Hogan, TNA have struggled to rebuild their company. They have had to let most of their established stars leave in order to reduce their loses from the Hogan-era. They also lost co-founder Jeff Jarrett after he left at Christmas in order to start a new company.
The Great Muta, Bully Ray and Devon have already been announced for BFG. Ray and Devon are going into the TNA Hall of Fame because of their tenure as the Dudley Boyz and Team 3D. After leaving the WWE in 2005, the tag team had become huge names in Japan.
It is already expected that this will be Sanada's last event with TNA before a new Wrestle-1 talent transfers to TNA. Sanada was expected to head back to Japan before BFG. But this news now means that Sanada will be available for the event as it will be in his home country.
