TNA Announces Major Changes To PPV Model

TNA officially announced today that they are drastically changing their pay-per-view model this year. The company will produce four major live pay-per-views in 2013: Genesis on January 13th, Lockdown on March 10th, Slammiversary on June 9th and Bound For Glory on October 13th.

In addition, TNA will broadcast seven pay-per-view specials titled TNA Wrestling: One Night Only, which will debut in April and will air during the months with no major pay-per-views. The first two specials will feature the X-Division and are titled Joker's Wild Tag Team Tournament and X-travaganza, respectively.

"The Pay-Per-View industry has changed so much in the last decade," TNA President Dixie Carter said. "The traditional pay-per-view wrestling model needed to evolve and we believe this strategy will positively impact not only the Pay-Per-View events but the weekly television programming as well."

The new pay-per-view schedule will not affect Impact Wrestling programming on Spike TV. The company will also continue to produce the Unfinished Business series on a Video on Demand basis.[/quote]

I am pleased however that there will be a focus on the X-Division still. It would have been stupid to ditch a focused X-Division PPV. I guess the "X-Division champion can trade there title in for a World title shot stipulation" has been ditched? I actually thought it was a cool idea.

Current plans is for Van Dam to take a VERY LONG TIME, about making up his mind. Which is pointless if he doesn't even have a choice to make.

And it slightly kills Sorensson's come back story line.

Indeed! This stipulation does make things awkward and I think RVD should be relieved of the belt. He has really not set the house on fire since joining TNA and the X-Division is about young, athletic talents who are the next generation of wrestling athletes.

At one point, they were building up to Hardy "being forced" to defend against Van Dam. But Hardy has not signed a new deal yet.
