TNA gave out a press release statement to the UK's media, and put a major error in it.
The statement claims that Magnus was the first British wrestler to win a major wrestling title since they became "world" titles 108 years ago. It announced that Magnus won the tournament to crown a new TNA World Heavyweight Champion on the most recent episode of Impact. The title changed happened 2 weeks ago, but was only made official when it aired on US television on 19th December. The press released hinted that the event happened on the 22nd, because that is when the episode first aired in the UK. The statement compared Magnus to a list of other British athletes who won internationally recognized titles in various sports after very long droughts. It also put over Magnus' television work in the UK (which is almost exclusively with the channel that broadcasts TNA events), as well as involvement with Fighting Spirit magazine.
British wrestler Gary Steele won the NWA World Heavyweight Championship in 1999, making Steele the first British wrestler to hold a major world championship, not Magnus.
