It is being reported that TNA has offered a new contract to Manik, even though he had a whole year left on the old one.
Manik signed a 2-year deal in 2013. This new contract is another 2-year deal which will end in 2016. The strangest part is that there are no other changes to his contract. He will continue to work the same schedule for the same pay. We have reported often about how stars are being asked to take pay-cuts. Manik is an exception as he already is one of the lower paid performers.
When Manik signed his first contract, TNA announced him under his real name of T.J. Perkins. He had already been in a few matches under both gimmicks, with Manik winning the X-Division Championship. But after the ink was dry, the Perkins character stopped appearing at TNA events. He would compete as Manik full time thereafter.
The Manik character was originally introduced under the name Suicide. Suicide was a character from the ill-fated TNA Impact video game. The character was introduced onto the main roster to promote the video game, despite the fact that the game had been on sale for a few months by this point. The character has been played by Kazarian, Daniels, Kiyoshi and Austin Aries at different times. Low-Ki voiced the character for the video game. The characters was "repackaged" last year, but the differences have been limited to changing his ring name and removing it from his costume.
