BSkyB, the company that airs WWE events in the United Kingdom, received a fine over broadcasts of Raw.
The UK has very different rules about advertising than the United States does. BSkyB has to edit shows to make sure that they don't fall foul of regulations. But during the month of August, BSkyB got too relaxed with first runs of Raw.
The UK only allows 12 minutes of product advertising for every hour of programme time. This includes sponsor messages and advertisements for WWE produced products. In addition, TV channels must put the small 'P' logo in the corner of the screen if a show has product placement.
In the past, BSkyB would resolve the problem by airing 'From The Vault' during WWE broadcasts. This mini-show replays one match from an earlier episode of Raw or SmackDown. The match almost always features Kofi Kingston, Edge or Rey Mysterio. But now BSkyB only show these if Raw runs late or under time (BSkyB gives Raw 3 hours and 15 minutes).
The WWE is not in any trouble. It is considered to be an American show, and is therefore the responsibility of the broadcaster.
