Expect Rob Van Dam to become the new TNA Television Champion over the next few weeks.
TNA is attempting to broadcast Impact live each week, a plan that was repeatedly shelved due to funding. Now that the TNA Television Championship is defended on every episode of Impact, Rob Van Dam winning the title would automatically publicise Van Dam for multiple forthcoming episodes.
TNA are hoping that they now have enough big-name stars on the roster to keep a regular viewership. However, they are building their brand around Van Dam, Hulk Hogan, Sting and Jeff Hardy in particular. These four men have been the main focus in TNA for the last 2-and-a-half years, and ratings have actually dropped when these men were the TNA Heavyweight Champion.
Current TNA Television Champion Devon must defend the title on this week's Impact against an opponent picked by fans. Rob Van Dam was revealed as the first option on Monday, with Mr. Anderson being announced last night, and Robbie E today. There is one more star to be named, and will likely be Robbie T.
The hope is that because Robbie E and Robbie T are the only people to have challenged for the title since Devon won it, fans will not vote for either individual. And the assumption is that Van Dam is more popular than Anderson, so fans will still vote for Van Dam. They believe that Mr. Anderson's fans feel that he should be challenging for the TNA World Heavyweight Championship after beating Jeff Hardy in a Number 1 Contender's match.
Even if the fans voting does not go their way, Van Dam could still receive a title match in the near future.
