There has been some confusion relating to Maria Kanellis and Maria Menounos at WrestleMania. Now we can clear it up.
Maria Kanellis recently denied the rumours that she was inducting Bob Backlund into the Hall Of Fame. That is because she isn't. Backlund will be inducted instead by Menounos.
As is the tradition, people going into the Hall Of Fame are allowed to choose the person who inducts them, provided that they are known to the WWE fanbase. Backlund chose Menounos because they are close personal friends. However, the WWE was afraid of a potential backlash from WWE fans due to Menounos' lack of involvement with professional wrestling. This is a large part of the reason why she is being considered for a role at this years WrestleMania. However, the majority of staff agree Menounos' match at WM XXVIII was not received as well as they had hoped.
As previously reported, the WWE were planning to re-debut 5 Divas at WrestleMania. When the current roster heard that the WWE had reached out to Kanellis, it upset a lot of people. Since leaving the company a few years ago, Kanellis had slated a lot of current stars in interviews, even making allegations about her former collegiate. One report was that most of the Divas only made it onto the main roster after performing sexual favours for upper-tier staff. This has resulted in many people refusing to work with her.
The match has been nixed mainly because 3 of the "returning" Divas did not want to do anything after WrestleMania season.
