I've halted this project thus far because it's not really a hack or anything. VPW1/WCW vs. The World has very easily accessible TMDs in its ISO, meaning anyone can view the models if they have the right program. If you're into messing with textures to create simple edits, it can get really fun too.

This one is actually Black Tiger, but with a twist. In VPW64, an unmasked Black Tiger reveals Johnny Ace's face, so I edited the unmasked texture and transplanted it onto Johnny Ace's, and then resized it to fit VPW1's dimensions. So here we have Eddie Guerrero's Player 2 costume with the edited Johnny Ace facial texture applied (it's a perfect fit!)

This one took a lot of patience. I resized Stone Cold's face texture from WM2K, but there were more steps involved. The body belongs to Mil Mascaras, but the base for the body textures was Terry Funk; the base for the face texture was Vader. I first had to align Vader's face with that of Mil's so that it would appear correctly on Mil's head, and then proceeded to apply the resized Austin texture on top. Then it took a lot of recoloring and blurring to get the desired effect. Terry's trunks, boots, and kneepads had to be recolored, and I had to add the brace and the wristband later on (still haven't perfected the brace, sadly). The pose is based on his flipping off taunt from WM2K, but the fingers aren't posable, haha.

Finally, my favorite: The Giant. People who've played WCW vs. the World know that The Giant's character select portrait is that of...well...The Giant! However, in-game, his appearance is that of André the Giant. I've always wanted to see The Giant in VPW1-style graphics, and I finally figured out a way to do so. I took André's body, and I merged it with Sabu's head to create a composite model. From there it was just a matter of resizing The Giant's face texture from VPW64 and recoloring André's attire. The pose took some time as well, but I'm so happy with how it turned out!

So these are N64 textures in the PS1 game WCW vs the World?

Nice stuff, have you managed to re-insert your edited models in the game ?
It seems some people have done it with one of the smackdown game on psx.

It's odd that no psx emulator has a texture dump/inject/replacement texture feature, there are certainly many games for that format that could take advantage of either modded or modernised textures.
Someone wrote a plugin but it can only work with a specific game unfortunately

There's still texmod i guess if you use a DX9 video plugin or umod for later DX versions that probably can work

Firstly, thank you all for the interest! The majority of the textures used were from the actual game itself, although perhaps with some color edits in the case of Stone Cold and The Giant. The face textures for The Giant were taken from VPW64, yes, but Stone Cold's was from WWF Wrestlemania 2000 as a proof of concept that he actually looks like he could belong in WCW vs. the World.

As for the question of reinserting models into the game, it should theoretically be possible. However, there are a number of hiccups I can foresee in doing so. Before I get into that, this is how the process should theoretically go:

1) We'd need to be able to export an edited model as a TMD, as we know this is the file format used.
2) We'd need to be able to replace the TMDs that are already on the disc with the new ones.
3) The associated TIMs would need to replace the ones associated with the models that are being replaced

TIM replacement has been done with games like Tekken 3 and, as you've mentioned, the WWF SmackDown! games. However, to my knowledge, TMD replacement isn't common at all. It's not as simple as naming the TMD the exact same name as the model you're replacing, and then just swapping one for the other. I don't know what tools would be used in such a process, but I can't picture it being that simple.

Furthermore, when combining a head from one model with the body of another, the ordering of the textures and body parts changes. I can't explain it very eloquently because I'm an amateur, but if any of you run Milkshape 3D, I can instruct you on how to do what I've done above, and you'll see exactly what I mean here.

However, if someone manages to accomplish this task, they'll have made a major breakthrough. Every character has two models; one for their Player 1 costume, and another separate model for their Player 2 costume. If one is able to replace one model, and replace the associated Player 1 or Player 2 textures, they can effectively have another wrestler occupying the Player 1 or 2 slot. So, as an example, you might have Player 1 be The Giant as I've represented him in the original post, and the Player 2 costume remain André the Giant. A more extreme and creative example would be having Shawn Michaels occupy Mil Mascaras' Player 1 costume, and keep Mil as the Player 2 costume (because they share extremely similar movesets with each other in WM2K and VPW2, this is justifiable). In other words, if you aren't picky about movesets, or about the mechanics of the game, you can double the roster in this way.

This is all theoretical and imaginary, and likely will never happen. I don't have the capability or means to do so, but I've presented the idea, and I've outlined what needs to be done. I'd be more than happy to help accomplish this if the tasks were within my means, so if anyone's got something in mind, I'm listening haha.
