Several websites are claiming to know why Del Rio was released. Be warned that this cannot be confirmed right now.
We already know that Del Rio had an altercation with an employee who takes care of WWE's social media accounts. The new version of events claims that the employee, made a racial joke about Del Rio.
The WWE provides catering for staff at most live shows. Employees were instructed that they need to clean their own plates before leaving the area. When one employee was reminded of this, he allegedly said that it was "Del Rio's job". It is possible that he was referring to Del Rio's self-made millionaire gimmick. But due to Del Rio's Hispanic ethnicity, most people took it as a racial reference.
When Del Rio heard of the incident, he confronted the person. However, this person took a dismissive attitude and this annoyed Del Rio further. Del Rio slapped the man out of frustration.
Some fans thought that Del Rio's firing was just a story line because the WWE has used Del Rio's character name, and not his real name. And Triple H retweeted an official statement about Del Rio's conduct. But the firing is legitimate.
There has already been a lot of talk within TNA Wrestling about bringing in Del Rio. If this happens, he will not be allowed to use the Del Rio name. But he has enough marketability without it. It should be noted that it is not management, or anyone who has any connections with hiring talent, that has been talking about bringing Del Rio in. It is not likely that TNA would be able to pay Del Rio enough money to attract him at his age.
In a related note: Ricardo Rodriguez was not fired, but asked for his release. Rodriguez had 2 contracts; one for talent and one for announcing. He had 2 weeks left on the talent contract and was not going to be offered a renewal. The WWE were unhappy with his physique and he had trouble keeping at the target weight they had set him. There was also no plans to make real use of him as an in-ring performer. Rodriguez would have been kept on as an announcer, but he wanted to remain as an in-ring performer. He also believed that the Spanish announce team was too large, so there was a good chance that he would've been released for budget cuts anyway.
