It seems that no-one in WWE really knows what Ryback's status is right now.
Ryback posted a cryptic tweet on Monday claiming that he would be taking some time off. He said that he had not been himself for some time and needed to fix some things. He ended the tweet with an apology to CM Punk. The post also had a photograph of a Ryback action figure standing over a CM Punk action figure. He deleted it a few hours later.
In follow up, Adam Rose mentioned that Ryback was injured during a segment with Curtis Axel on Main Event. Michael Cole verified that Ryback would be out recovering from an injury, but would be back after 2 weeks.
Ryback is not booked for any shows going forward, but he is expected to be back by the end of this week. The word is that he has NOT been given any time off, and nobody believes that he is injured.
No-one knows what Ryback meant by his Twitter comments. Last year, Ryback was engaged in a feud with Punk. Punk repeatedly asked for time off to recover from an illness and building injuries. However, the WWE's idea of "time-off" meant booking Punk for beat-downs from Ryback and Axel instead of a proper match. In each of these beat downs, Punk would pick up a new injury. The most notorious was a stunt where Ryback threw Punk off a platform and through a table on the concrete floor. Punk broke some ribs upon impact with the floor. Ryback took the blame for botching the spot, even though there was no "safe" way for Punk to take the fall. (For those who were wondering, the stunt involved falling 15ft back first onto a concrete floor. The tables offer little protection). Some theorise that Ryback was just baiting Punk for no particular reason.
