It appears that a "respected" wrestling news reporter have been posting bogus news stories about TNA.
It is not known who this person is, but many of his stories have been posted on reputable news websites, including Pro Wrestling Illustrated and Wrestling News. There is a good possibility that this is someone who was once very reputable, or would appear to have access to such information. As a result, dozens of other sites repeat the news.
And yes, some of those false stories have been posted here on OSR. Particularly by me. So on behalf of ourselves, I apologise. We do try to make sure stories are as accurate as possible before posting, but sometimes mistakes are made.
This trend has started since the beginning of October, during the build up to Bound For Glory. Most of the fake stories have been about contract negotiations.
One report claimed that Hogan had signed a high-money contract with TNA, and then claimed that he had a "verbal agreement" with WWE and he is training for a match at WrestleMania XXX. None of this is true as Hogan is still playing both companies off one-another in order to get more money. But neither company is willing to come close to what he is asking for. Hogan is in training for a match at WrestleMania, but the WWE has not agreed to giving him one yet. TNA does hope to bring Hogan back if he lowers his own expectations. This is why wrestlers are being told to say that they want him back in interviews.
A.J. Styles, Sting, Samoa Joe and Kurt Angle have not received offers from WWE recently. In Styles' case, there have been talks at least, but they ultimately didn't want him.
Eric and Garrett Bischoff are not fired. TNA want Eric to stay because he is good at dealing with network executives. But Eric will not stay unless he gets more control and Hogan is rehired. TNA does not think that Eric is being realistic about the effect he has had in TNA and will not meet his demands. They will continue to pay him until his contract expires, giving him time to change his mind. If Garrett leaves when his father does, it will be his own choice. Garrett had a lot of heat on him when he debuted because of the way his father brought him into the company and his initial push. But since then, Garrett has proven himself and he has become well liked and has taken his training seriously. Garrett is welcome to stay on, but he is not being used as much until he makes a decision.
TNA are not looking to drop all Hogan-era storylines, just the ones that have run their course. For example, the Joseph Park character has been dropped for this reason, and the Abyss character has already been brought back. Aces and Eights are being kept off television until Garrett Bischoff decides if he is staying or not. If he does, a third person (likely Wes Brisco) will be added to the group to continue on as a 3 piece. If he leaves, then this leaves Knux on his own, and therefore there would be no point in continuing the angle. Bully Ray and Mr. Anderson are being distanced from the group to put more focus on the TNA World Heavyweight Championship.
Billy Corgan did make a serious offer to invest in TNA. The "leaked" memo is genuine, and was issued recently to all staff members. However, the talks with Corgan were ongoing even after it was released. The memo was then forwarded to reporters looking for confirmation on the Corgan story.
