According to story lines, TNA World Heavyweight Champion A.J. Styles has walked out of TNA and took the championship belt with him. It is already known that Styles will be representing TNA overseas, but the reasons may not be as obvious as they may look.
Styles is being made to travel to help his career. His current TNA contract expires at the end of this year, and he does not want to sign a new one. Dixie Carter has made Styles dozens of promises that things within the company will get better, but Styles is reluctant to believe her. By taking some time away from TNA, Styles can judge for himself if things actually are getting better. If he feels that they are, he will sign a new deal. If not, he will drop the title and leave.
Styles already has confirmed dates with AAA (Mexico) and Wrestle-1 (Japan). If he chooses to leave TNA, this will increase his chances of getting a contract with either company. If he chooses to stay, then it will improve TNA's relationship with both companies for the future. It is already known that the WWE does not want Styles. He could make a decent living on the independent scene or with Ring Of Honor, but that would be it for the rest of his career. Signing with TNA, AAA or Wrestle-1 will help Styles make serious money while he is still able to.
TNA also feels that there is no longer a World title. Most world championships are defended in their home countries, thus defeating the point of them being WORLD titles. Title holders in TNA used to defend the titles in other companies in other countries, but this ended when Hogan came in as a business partner (this is not connected). Styles will be the first of a string of TNA World Champions to actually defend the title all-over the world.
