Windows 10 Showdown Conflict on Fullscreen

So I recently upgraded to Windows 10. On Windows 8.1, I was easily able to play Showdown 64 in glorious widescreen 1080p, and it was beautiful. I truly loved it.

Now, though, with Windows 10 there is an error anytime I try to run Showdown in full screen mode. I can run it in a window (which looks pretty horrible and condensed) but upon clicking to bring it to full screen, I get the following error in a popup Window:

Direct3D8:

ChangeWindow Exception

This seems to be a problem with the Jabo Direct3d 1.7.0.57 plugin, since the Glide plugin works fine (but obviously you cannot use the Glide plugin to run Showdown). For the record, the earlier versions of Jabo are giving the same error.

A Google search reveals at least a few others have this issue, but nobody knows how to fix it. I'm disconcerted that others have had no problem running Showdown in Windows 10. I'm thinking I'll be stuck in windowed mode forever.

Here's what I've tried (with no success):
-Running PJ 64 in Windows 8 (and also tried 7) Compatibility Mode
-Tried using earlier versions of Jabo
-Tried running as administrator
-Tried updating Direct X through the Microsoft website-- it did nothing, said all my files were already up to date.

Also, I don't think simply reinstalling Project 64 will do the trick, as I tried installing Project 64 2.2 in a new folder and running Showdown, but the same exact error occurred, even though it was a clean install.

Anybody have any ideas at all? This has essentially broken Showdown for me.

Here is a picture of the error window. It stops emulation every time I try to go full screen.

Also I'm running an Nvidia Geforce 970, with the drivers fully updated.

I hear you Keson. But I have my settings set to the same exact settings you have. In fact, I double checked before I posted here. I used your settings pictures as a direct reference because I assume you have everything working fine.

Sorry, I'm just used to nobody checking that album. WIndows 10 has given me problems with Project 64 since I upgraded. How about this?

Yeah, I'm sure it can be frustrating. That's why I've been working all afternoon to solve the problem myself, but I'm all out of ideas.

That's how I have the Rom Settings configured also. I can check override aspect to change the aspect ratio within the window, but still cannot run fullscreen and therefore cannot run in full widescreen at all (only with Jabo, but again, we know that's totally necessary for Showdown).

Nice new font on the Menu screen in that pic, btw.

Honestly, i didn't even consider using 1.7. I can use Glide in 2.1 for my other titles like Zelda, and 1.7 exclusively for Showdown. Thanks for the idea, I'll try it out.

EDIT: Out of curiosity, if you don't mind, what kind of conflicts are you having with PJ and Windows 10? I'm trying to get a sense of whether this is the type of thing that will be fixed in an automatic update. I think Windows 10 might be having a lot of conflicts with the graphics drivers from Nvidia in general.

Sometimes I get a blue screen just for turning on Project 64. Seriously.

Maddening.

Thought it might be something like that. Been hearing about things like that a LOT.

Next time somebody's jerking off Windows 10 for being so great, I think I'll throw a MITB briefcase straight at their noggin.

I was lured in by the start menu. But it's been shitting on my motherboard ever since. It's a good OS, I just should have waited it to be updated.4

edit: I just remembered my fullscreen was fucky at first until I changed my resolution. Don't know why.

Only thing great about Windows 10 so far are features that never should have been removed in the first place. It's like Stockholm Syndrome for the kidnap victims of Windows 8.

Thanks though for the 7.1 suggestion. The menu flickers a lot, but in game everything is functional and smooth in 1080p full screen. Oddly enough, running Showdown full screen in 7.1 seems to have "reminded" DirectX and PJ 2.1 how to run Showdown full screen on my system. I no longer get the ChangeWindow Exception error message using 2.1 in full screen, but I do have absurd non-stop flickering, so back to 7.1 for now.

It would be nice to be able to use 2.1, hopefully this will get cleared up eventually. Unless you have some idea what's causing the rapid flickering...
