Former WWE Creative Writer Court Bauer has made 2 startling revelations about WrestleMania 22 (2006).
One of the planned matches was Eddie Guerrero vs Shawn Michaels for WWE World Heavyweight Championship. It would not have been the final match, but it would have been a main event. Someone started drawing parallels in their careers, calling Guerrero the "Mexican HBK". Both men rebuilt their marriages, careers and lives after serious drug addictions. Both men were the shortest WWE and World Heavyweight Champions when they held either title (Rey Mysterio holds both records now). The duo had worked matches together, but never really had an actual feud.
However, this plan was made less than 2 days before Guerrero's death. Guerrero was due to face Randy Orton and World Heavyweight Champion Batista for the title at the SmackDown tapings. Stephanie McMahon started the rumour that Guerrero was scheduled to win the title in that match (he wasn't as this match was meant to take Guerrero out of the title picture for a while).
Another match was meant to be Bret Hart vs Mr. McMahon. When the idea was first pitched, McMahon phoned Bret right away. Bret was concerned about being hit in the head (his career had been ended because of a serious concussion). He had only just forgiven McMahon for the Montreal Screwjob incident 8 years earlier. Two weeks after that phone call, McMahon told the team that the match was off. McMahon never revealed the reason why.
Bret later suffered a stroke, which limited his physical ability in all aspects of life. It made the notion of Bret even taking a bump very unlikely. The match happened at WrestleMania 27, but several of Hart's family members, and Tyson Kidd, did the physical part of the match for Bret.
